Whenever I Am Afraid
Psalms 56:1, “Be merciful to me, O God, for man would swallow me up; fighting all day he oppresses me. My enemies would hound me all day, for there are many who fight against me, O Most High.”
We live in a time when the seemingly endless and confused chatter all around us can weaken the hearts of even those who begin their days loving truth and embracing hope for the future. From the constant negative media blather to the woes of the fretful and the scorning of the godless, as the psalmist says, I feel that everything around me wants to rob me of the joy and peace that is in my heart. Thankfully, he finishes with these words to encourage us, “Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God, (I will praise His word), in God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me?”
It's time to pray.
